Marabu Porcelain

It's so simple:

1. Thoroughly clean the porcelain surface with washing-up liquid or Marabu Cleaner to ensure it is free from dust and grease. Before painting, rinse off all detergent residue.

2. Stir paint well as colour pigments settle in the jar – do not shake!

3. Paint the surface as desired (see porcelain painting techniques).

4. The paint is dry to the touch after 30 minutes and dishwasher-safe after 3 days. We recommend washing the painted glasses at max. 50 °C on a glasses/cups cycle. To speed up the drying process or in combination with the Marabu Porcelain & Glas Painter, the paint can also be fired for 30 minutes at 160 °C.

Airbrushing with Marabu Porcelain

Using Marabu colours the airbrush technique offers a variety of great design possibilities on various substrates: from paper, wood & craft materials to glass & porcelain to textiles & silk.

Beautiful patterns or sharp outlines can be realised using this technique; photographically accurate pictures can be enhanced with special effects such as metallic gloss or mirror reflexes. The colour is mixed with the airflow in the spray pistol and is applied in extremely thin layers by constantly moving your hand. By varying the aperture of the nozzle, the distance to the painting substrate or by the use of stencils, there is no limit to your artistic scope.

Further advice:
- Stir well before use or, if necessary, strain the colours.
- Choose the appropriate thinner for colour and substrate.
- The colour should be sufficiently liquid that it can pass through a teastrainer.
- The substrate should be dust and grease-free.
- Use self-adhesive templates.
- Ensure that the workplace is well ventilated and that spray mist is avoided.
- When changing colours, use the appropriate cleaning agent for the spray pistol - in the case of water-based Marabu-colours the appropriate cleaning agent is simply water.
- After use carefully clean all equipment with the appropriate cleaning materials.
- Always carry out pre-trials.

Dab on the porcelain paint for ultra-fine areas with a delicate application. Lightly dab on paint using the Marabu Stencilling Sponge, wait for a short time and stencil over again without paint, thereby avoiding air bubbles. You can also use several colours for stencilling. Painted tiles

When grouting painted ceramic tiles, use only fine-grain grout and only use in the joint areas, i.e. along the edge of the tiles. Clean painted tiles only with water and washing-up liquid. Do not use any abrasive cleaners.Accelerating drying

If you are in a hurry, the drying time can be reduced. To do this, let the object dry for approx. 4 hours, place it in a cold oven and set the temperature to 100 °C. When the temperature of 100 °C has been reached, heat the painted object at this temperature for 30 minutes and then let it cool down in the closed oven.Omitting cutting areas and drinking edges

Cutting areas of plates and drinking edges of mugs and glasses should not be painted as cutlery could damage the designs.Frosted effect on glass

Corrections or complete removal of the paint application are possible as long as the paint has not fully dried. Use e.g. a cotton swab with Marabu Cleaner or white spirit.Dishes for everyday use

Glass and porcelain objects have to be cleaned thoroughly before painting. For especially effective cleaning, scrub the object with an abrasive detergent and a sponge and then wipe with Marabu Cleaner or with white spirit to ensure it is free from dust and grease. Plastic-coated and varnished objects cannot be painted with Porcelain.

Insufficient adhesion of Porcelain

What could be the reason for Marabu Porcelain not adhering properly?

The reason for this is often that the surface was not completely free from dust and oil. New objects should be pre-cleaned in the dishwasher before painting or cleaned with a scrubbing agent/dishwashing liquid and a sponge. Then thoroughly rub the surface with Marabu Cleaner & Thinner or white spirit to remove any finger prints. Any cleaning residue also has to be carefully removed before painting.Porcelain in the dishwasher

Are objects painted with Marabu Porcelain dishwasher-safe?

Can Marabu Porcelain and Marabu Porcelain & Glas Painter be used together?

Yes. Porcelain and Porcelain & Glas Painter are an ideal combination. Although the Porcelain paint needs no oven fixation, it can be baked along with the Porcelain & Glas painter. Both are dishwasher proof (max. 50 °C) after oven baking at 160°C for 30 minutes.Diluting Porcelain with water

Can Marabu Porcelain be diluted with water?

No. Diluting the with water will change the properties of the Porcelain paints. The designs would not be guaranteed to be dishwasher-safe after drying.Clothing soiled with Porcelain, Porcelain & Glas Painter

How can I remove the paint from textiles?

Soiled areas should immediately (very important!) be washed out by hand using lukewarm water and soft soap. Stubborn stains can be soaked in a floor cleaner solution (e.g. Cif) and then rinsed. Dried stains can possibly not be removed without residue.

Nevertheless, we recommend not to paint drinking rims and cut surfaces of tableware, as the paint is not approved for direct food contact.
