Vase with modelling clay and Marabu GREEN alkyd paint

These vases with colourful ornaments made of modelling clay definitely put you in a good mood and are a great upcycling project thanks to the use of recycled glass. If you don’t have any coloured modelling clay at hand, you can easily change that with our GREEN alkyd paint.

Tips and Tricks

  • For a straight bottom of the rainbow ends, clip the ends of the three adjacent rolls with a knife.

How it is done:

  • First cover the work area well and prepare the working materials. Clean the old glass before designing. It should be clean and dry.
  • First, mix some baking powder with the GREEN alkyd paint cream white and stir until smooth. The correct mixing ratio of paint and baking powder becomes apparent when the paint starts to bubble. Next, using a fine-pored sponge, dab the colour/baking powder mixture all around the old glass. Allow the first layer to dry briefly and then dab a second layer on top. Allow everything to dry well.
  • Roll out the air-drying modelling clay on a smooth, non-stick surface into a long roll with a diameter of approx. 0.5 cm. Shape into small rainbows or balls. Allow the modelling clay to dry according to the instructions on the packet. If necessary, place larger objects to dry on the appropriate spot on the scrap glass to adapt the shape to the bottle. After drying, paint the shapes with the desired GREEN colours using a thin brush. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
  • After the paint has dried, the little rainbows and balls are attached to the bottles with hot glue or assembly glue. After the glue has set, the vases are also ready to use!
